Flying to Melbourne

Melbourne Airport (MEL), also known as Tullamarine Airport, is Melbourne's main international gateway, located about 23 km north-west of the city centre. It operates 24 hours a day and offers non-stop flights to around 70 destinations worldwide, with one-stop connections available from most major cities.

If there is no non-stop flight from your city, convenient one-stop connections operate via major hubs such as Singapore, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Doha, and Dubai. Alternatively, you can fly into Sydney or Brisbane and connect to Melbourne on frequent domestic flights (around 1.5 hours) with Qantas, Virgin Australia, Jetstar, or Rex.

From the Airport to the Conference Venue

The conference venue, the RMIT University Melbourne City campus (124 La Trobe Street, Melbourne VIC 3000), is in the northern part of Melbourne's CBD, next to Melbourne Central Station. There is currently no direct train line from the airport; the main options are:

SkyBus (recommended) — the Melbourne City Express runs 24/7 between the airport and Southern Cross Station in the CBD, departing about every 10 minutes at peak times. The journey takes roughly 30–40 minutes and costs A$24.60 one way (A$43.40 return); tickets can be bought online, at airport kiosks, or by card at the bus. From Southern Cross Station, RMIT is a short tram ride within the Free Tram Zone (trams along La Trobe Street towards Swanston Street), one City Loop train stop to Melbourne Central Station, or about a A$15 taxi ride.
Taxi — taxi ranks are located outside each terminal. The trip to the CBD takes about 25–40 minutes depending on traffic and costs approximately A$55–75.
Rideshare — Uber, DiDi, and Ola pick up from designated zones at each terminal, at prices similar to (or slightly below) taxis.

Getting Around Melbourne

Central Melbourne is compact and easy to explore: tram travel is free within the CBD's Free Tram Zone (which covers the area around RMIT and most central attractions), and the wider train, tram, and bus network uses the myki ticketing system.
